Wayne, NJ (October 1, 2024) – The Life Raft Group (LRG), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by rare cancers, is proud to announce the launch of Liposarcoma Support Network (LSN), a new initiative aimed at providing essential resources and a strong community for liposarcoma patients and their caregivers. LSN is committed to enhancing the survival and quality of life for people living with liposarcoma through patient-powered research, education and empowerment, and global advocacy efforts, and guiding our journey towards a cure.
Liposarcoma, a rare and complex form of soft tissue sarcoma, presents unique challenges for patients and their loved ones. With limited treatment options and the emotional toll of a rare cancer diagnosis, many feel isolated and unsupported. Recognizing this need, The Life Raft Group has created a dedicated network to offer support, education, and connection to those affected by liposarcoma, and to bring the patient voice to research toward a cure.
A Network Designed for Patients and Caregivers
The Liposarcoma Support Network is a comprehensive resource hub offering:
- Patient & Caregiver Mentor Program: A safe space for patients and caregivers to connect, share their experiences, and support one another one-on-one.
- Support Groups: Encouragement & support for patients and caregivers.
- Personalized Guidance: Assistance navigating the rare disease journey.
- Educational resources: Access to up-to-date information on liposarcoma, including webinars, free patient education conferences, treatments, clinical trials, and expert Q&A sessions.
- Specialists Directory: Providing patients the opportunity to access our longstanding relationships with sarcoma specialists & centers.
- Caregiver support: Specific resources and emotional support for caregivers navigating the challenges of caring for a loved one with liposarcoma.
- Patient Registry Platform: As part of the LRG Patient Registry, this platform will collect the natural history of those living with liposarcoma to provide time-sensitive perspectives on side effects & treatments, and ultimately influence clinical trials & research.
Christina Wang, Director of the Liposarcoma Support Network, shared the motivation behind this initiative: “A liposarcoma diagnosis can be overwhelming and complex, and no one should face the journey alone. Despite liposarcoma being one of the more common sarcoma diagnoses, there is no other nonprofit organization dedicated specifically to supporting liposarcoma patients and caregivers. We hope that LSN can provide liposarcoma patients with knowledge, support and a community they can rely on, and lead the way towards a cure.”
A Collaborative Effort to Improve Lives
The Life Raft Group has a long history of supporting the rare cancer community, and this new initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to expanding resources for underserved populations. With the help of partners in the patient advocacy community, the LRG aims to broaden awareness of liposarcoma and foster collaboration across organizations to better meet the needs of patients. “We are excited to work with other advocacy groups, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to spread the word about this vital resource,” said Sara Rothschild, Executive Director, The Life Raft Group. “Together, we can make a meaningful difference for those affected by liposarcoma.”
